A message from our Bon Dance Chair – Ryne Masuda
The 10th Annual Mō‘ili‘ili Summer Fest (Honolulu’s Largest Bon Dance) is coming up on Saturday, July 1st, 2023 from 5:00pm – 10:00pm (1100 University Ave). The Mō‘ili‘ili Summer Fest consists of several community organizations: Mō‘ili‘ili Hongwanji Mission, Kamehameha Schools, Mō‘ili‘ili Community Center, Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, & University of Hawaii at Manoa.
In celebrating our 10th anniversary, the Mō‘ili‘ili Summer Fest is collaborating with several local businesses and will be releasing limited edition merchandise & products. Stay tuned for more information!
In order for this event to be possible, the Mō‘ili‘ili Summer Fest heavily relies on sponsorships & donations. If you work for a business and would like to give back to the community or would like to make a donation, please send us an email at Moiliili.events@gmail.com.
From the temple level, planning is also underway. We are planning to have our usual set up: Concession food booth, retail & drink tent. The Bon Dance committee is in the process of finalizing this year’s concession menu.
This year, Mō‘ili‘ili Hongwanji Mission will be releasing a new Bon Dance towel design! (Colors: Turquoise, Black, White).
Sales will begin soon, stay tuned!
Being “Honolulu’s Largest Bon Dance,” many volunteers are needed in order to make this event possible. Tasks include: behind the scenes working at the temple, set up/clean-up, parking attendants, working in the concession/retail booths, and more.
I humbly ask for your support & encourage you to ask your family, friends, coworkers. Giving back to this community event can be very rewarding.
We are seeking donations- monetarily or via our wish list of items. Please contact the temple office to volunteer and/or make a donation.
I would like to personally thank the Bon Dance committee in advance for their hard work & dedication each and every year planning this event. I would also like to thank all of our volunteers for coming out & making this event possible.
Mahalo,
Ryne Masuda
